” One of the great pleasures in picking up a skateboarding mag is flipping immediately to the center spreads, where the full-page photos live. For a few generally uninterrupted pages, words take a backseat to moments captured by the industry’s best lensmen — magic lighting, consequential tricks and high-profile pros corralled together in places revered or undiscovered.

These galleries fulfill the need to be inspired by something greater than yourself, a reason to walk bloodied back up your local stairs or drop in one more time. But when it comes down to everyday rolling around, sometimes it’s the more pedestrian images that move us.

With Instagram on every kid’s omnipresent phone, the ability to freeze any frame and share it with your circle is universal. Clicking a “like” button shows not only your appreciation for a well-filtered shot, but also your engagement with a particular moment. You know that feeling.

On May 23, Asymbol and Brain Farm launched their “Why I Skate” contest, where photographers of any skill level could upload images that best answered that question. Through Wednesday, the judges — professional photographer Tim Zimmerman, skate-film guru Ty Evans and “Art of Flight” cinematic mastermind Curt Morgan — will continue to review the submissions to select the one photo they believe defines the essence of motivation. Fans can weigh in to determine the Voters’ Choice.

“The idea came from the fact that, at Asymbol, we feel really connected to all forms of board riding,” says Asymbol managing director Alex Hillinger. “Brain Farm has made a real big push into skateboarding with hiring Ty Evans, and we just launched this new piece by Tim Zimmerman of this photo of Sky Siljeg skating a fullpipe, screened onto a birch panel. They’re working on a skate film, we’re doing skate art, so we thought, ‘Let’s do a contest that looks at skate photography from an artistic standpoint — not necessarily an editorial standpoint, but more looking at photography where it works on all levels. Where what’s going on in the photos has artistic value that kind of stands on its own as a piece of art as opposed to just a photo of somebody doing a trick.”

Travis Rice – Adventurers of 2012

Posted in Press, The Art of FLIGHT on April 4th, 2013 by Jeff

Travis Rice is known for pushing limits and Nat Geo is giving him opportunity to be voted for Adventurer of 2012 with other High Named Celebs like Jeremy Jones. See the article Below !

Travis Rice’s father was in the ski patrol at Wyoming’s Jackson Hole Mountain Resort. And like many dads, he raised his son to follow in his ski tracks. Fortunately for snowboarding, things didn’t go as planned.

A decade ago and unheard of at the time, Rice arrived at Snowboardermagazine’s Superpark contest at Mammoth Mountain, launched a now legendary backside rodeo across a 117-foot gap jump, and left a star. Since then, Rice has developed into the best all-around snowboarder in the world: He is equally capable of showing up to win a slope style event in Aspen as he is in pioneering a first descent in the remote Darwin Range on the tip of South America. The 29-year-old makes use of all the tools in a snowboarder’s quiver—big-mountain tenacity, acrobatics, and snow and mountain sense, often in a single descent. And 2011 was the apex so far in Rice’s career.

Filming for the highly anticipated film The Art of Flight, which he co-produced with Brain Farm Digital Cinema’s Curt Morgan and Chad Jackson, Rice took the staggering aerial tricks usually reserved for the relative safety of the manicured, avalanche-controlled terrain parks made popular by the X Games and the Olympics, and applied them to the big mountains. In these peaks, a fall could mean tumbling down a vertical face or being swept into a gaping crevasse. Rice performed them all while under the watchful eye of director Curt Morgan’s superslow motion camera.

“CAMP WOODWARD” PREMIERES ON HULU, HULU PLUS AND OUTSIDE TV

Camp Woodward Returns for a Sixth Season and Expands its Reach across Multiple Platforms

Woodward, Penn. (March 15, 2013) – Camp Woodward, in partnership with Brain Farm Digital Cinema, today announced the premiere of its original series “Camp Woodward” on the free, ad-supported Hulu and Hulu Plus subscription service on March 16, one week before its March 23 (10:30 a.m. ET) television premiere on Outside Television.

“We wanted to maximize our reach with this season’s ‘Camp Woodward’, which is why we’ve expanded the show to multiple platforms,” said Gary Ream, president of Camp Woodward. “By premiering on Hulu, Hulu Plus and Outside Television, audiences everywhere will be able to experience a little bit of the magic of what Camp Woodward is all about.”

In its sixth season, “Camp Woodward” follows a cast of talented young skateboarders whose professional aspirations inspire them to leave home to hone their talents and pursue their dreams at the camp. The non-scripted series captures the imagination of audiences around the world as it documents the real lives and stories of young people as they ride alongside both peers and professionals in the ultimate summer sports camp environment.

“Camp Woodward” originally aired on FUEL TV, a cable channel within the Fox Networks Group, in 2007 and ran for five consecutive seasons. Earlier this fall Camp Woodward announced a partnership with Emmy-award winning Brain Farm to produce season six.

Brain Farm established itself as the leader in action and adventure programming with commercially successful films such as The Art of Flight, which in 2011 broke worldwide sales records for the genre. Also known for its epic cinematography and production credits, Brain Farm earned an Emmy for its cinematic contributions on National Geographic Channel’s Great Migrations.

“It has been an incredible experience working on this season,” said Dave Paine, executive director for ‘Camp Woodward’. “’Camp Woodward’ is one of the few reality television shows where you don’t have to manufacture the stories. These are real kids experiencing two weeks at a summer camp like no other in the world.”

Following its premiere on Hulu and Hulu Plus, “Camp Woodward” will be available for download on iTunes.

ESPN Article “Ty Evans Joins Brain Farm”

Posted in #brainfarmskate, News, Press on February 22nd, 2013 by Jeff

In this ESPN Article you get the details on who Ty Evans is and why he is the perfect fit with Brain Farm’s Skate project.

ty camera espn

ESPN Writes – “Award-winning skateboard filmmaker Ty Evans has teamed up with production powerhouse Brain Farm Digital Cinema, according to a statement released this week.
A Southern California native, Evans has been making skateboarding films since he purchased his first camera at a thrift store more than 20 years ago. Best known for his work with the Girl Skateboards (“Pretty Sweet”) and Lakai Footwear (“Fully Flared”), Evans also works as a director for hire. To his credit, he’s even directed a commercial for Chevrolet that featured professional skateboarder Rob Dyrdek making a car kickflip, which aired during the 2012 Super Bowl.
Evans, a long time friend of Brain Farm’s CEO Curtis Morgan, told XGames.com about his new venture, “We’ve been talking about me doing this for a long time. It hasn’t been something that I just figured out right now, I always knew that when I finished “Pretty Sweet” that’s what I wanted to do.” Evans continued, “I’m going to Brain Farm to make my next skate film. Each one of my skate films I want to make bigger and better than the last one and Brain Farm has amazing tools and resources for me to be able to do that.”
Brain Farm Digital Cinema, based out of Jackson, Wyo., was founded by filmmakers who revolutionized snowboarding videos with their use of aerial photography, pushing the limits of what is possible with groundbreaking films like “That’s It, That’s All” and “The Art of Flight.” From concept through post-production, Brain Farm utilizes revolutionary technology and has developed equipment specifically to capture action.
Of moving into the realm of skateboard films and their latest addition to their creative team, Morgan said, “We love the sport of skate and it’s such an important part of board sports culture that Brain Farm is so passionate about. Ty and I have been friends for quite awhile now and I could not have dreamed up a better situation than this. Ty is such a creative artist and he is hands down the best filmmaker in skate.”
Evans’ primary focus, and reason for enlisting with Brain Farm, is to make the production company’s first skate film and to make his farthest reaching to date. Evans explains, “I think it makes sense for me to do a skateboard film that can reach the masses and a production company like Brain Farm is a perfect fit because they come from skateboarding and snowboarding. Curt, the owner of Brain Farm, has been skateboarding since he was a kid and I think we’re on the same page.”…..

THE ART OF FLIGHT 3D: TRAVIS RICE INTERVIEW

Posted in Press, The Art of FLIGHT, Uncategorized on January 7th, 2013 by Jeff

THE ART OF FLIGHT 3D: TRAVIS RICE INTERVIEW  via Red Bull

‘The Art of FLIGHT 3D,’ the remarkable snowboarding movie conceived by pro rider Travis Rice, will have its world premiere Friday at the San Sebastian Film Festival in Spain.

Rice, who was last seen on board the Team Oracle USA America’s Cup boat, recently spoke about the 3D version of ‘The Art of FLIGHT’ and what it took to accomplish the feat of making the most epic snowboarding film in history even better.

What can audiences expect, especially those who have already seen it the first time around?

Seeing the film in 3D is like the difference from watching it on your iPhone to experiencing it on home theater Blu-ray. I was blown away by how great it looks. It truly is a more evolved and, dare I say, different film in 3D.

In addition to starring in the movie you also serve as executive producer, did you have any input into the 3D transfer?

Yeah, we worked with Venture 3D on making sure all the perspectives were properly represented in the 3D conversion. (Director) Curt Morgan and Red Bull Media House really spent some time on getting this thing to come to fruition.

Was it always the plan to release movie in 3D?

It was a plan that kind of evolved along with the production of the film. We weren’t sure it was going to happen, but Curt prepared a lot of the shots and scenes to work better in a 3D format.

How will the 3D bring us even further into the action?

It takes you in. It really highlights the level of cinematography and depth of feel that Curt Morgan and Brain Farm were able to achieve while shooting the film. It really just enhances the experience, plain and simple.
