Travis Rice’s father was in the ski patrol at Wyoming’s Jackson Hole Mountain Resort. And like many dads, he raised his son to follow in his ski tracks. Fortunately for snowboarding, things didn’t go as planned.

A decade ago and unheard of at the time, Rice arrived at Snowboardermagazine’s Superpark contest at Mammoth Mountain, launched a now legendary backside rodeo across a 117-foot gap jump, and left a star. Since then, Rice has developed into the best all-around snowboarder in the world: He is equally capable of showing up to win a slope style event in Aspen as he is in pioneering a first descent in the remote Darwin Range on the tip of South America. The 29-year-old makes use of all the tools in a snowboarder’s quiver—big-mountain tenacity, acrobatics, and snow and mountain sense, often in a single descent. And 2011 was the apex so far in Rice’s career.

Filming for the highly anticipated film The Art of Flight, which he co-produced with Brain Farm Digital Cinema’s Curt Morgan and Chad Jackson, Rice took the staggering aerial tricks usually reserved for the relative safety of the manicured, avalanche-controlled terrain parks made popular by the X Games and the Olympics, and applied them to the big mountains. In these peaks, a fall could mean tumbling down a vertical face or being swept into a gaping crevasse. Rice performed them all while under the watchful eye of director Curt Morgan’s superslow motion camera.

Camp Woodward Returns for a Sixth Season and Expands its Reach across Multiple Platforms

Woodward, Penn. (March 15, 2013) – Camp Woodward, in partnership with Brain Farm Digital Cinema, today announced the premiere of its original series “Camp Woodward” on the free, ad-supported Hulu and Hulu Plus subscription service on March 16, one week before its March 23 (10:30 a.m. ET) television premiere on Outside Television.

“We wanted to maximize our reach with this season’s ‘Camp Woodward’, which is why we’ve expanded the show to multiple platforms,” said Gary Ream, president of Camp Woodward. “By premiering on Hulu, Hulu Plus and Outside Television, audiences everywhere will be able to experience a little bit of the magic of what Camp Woodward is all about.”

In its sixth season, “Camp Woodward” follows a cast of talented young skateboarders whose professional aspirations inspire them to leave home to hone their talents and pursue their dreams at the camp. The non-scripted series captures the imagination of audiences around the world as it documents the real lives and stories of young people as they ride alongside both peers and professionals in the ultimate summer sports camp environment.

“Camp Woodward” originally aired on FUEL TV, a cable channel within the Fox Networks Group, in 2007 and ran for five consecutive seasons. Earlier this fall Camp Woodward announced a partnership with Emmy-award winning Brain Farm to produce season six.

Brain Farm established itself as the leader in action and adventure programming with commercially successful films such as The Art of Flight, which in 2011 broke worldwide sales records for the genre. Also known for its epic cinematography and production credits, Brain Farm earned an Emmy for its cinematic contributions on National Geographic Channel’s Great Migrations.

“It has been an incredible experience working on this season,” said Dave Paine, executive director for ‘Camp Woodward’. “’Camp Woodward’ is one of the few reality television shows where you don’t have to manufacture the stories. ESPN Writes – “Award-winning skateboard filmmaker Ty Evans has teamed up with production powerhouse Brain Farm Digital Cinema, according to a statement released this week.
A Southern California native, Evans has been making skateboarding films since he purchased his first camera at a thrift store more than 20 years ago. Best known for his work with the Girl Skateboards (“Pretty Sweet”) and Lakai Footwear (“Fully Flared”), Evans also works as a director for hire. To his credit, he’s even directed a commercial for Chevrolet that featured professional skateboarder Rob Dyrdek making a car kickflip, which aired during the 2012 Super Bowl.
Evans, a long time friend of Brain Farm’s CEO Curtis Morgan, told XGames.com about his new venture, “We’ve been talking about me doing this for a long time. It hasn’t been something that I just figured out right now, I always knew that when I finished “Pretty Sweet” that’s what I wanted to do.” Evans continued, “I’m going to Brain Farm to make my next skate film. Each one of my skate films I want to make bigger and better than the last one and Brain Farm has amazing tools and resources for me to be able to do that.”
